    In order to backup your Wii Game Saves, Virtual Console games, photos and other saved data on the Wii you will need a SD (Secure Digital) Memory Card. These memory cards, both 1st and 3rd party typically look similar to the one posted below. Insert the card into your Wii in the slot below the Wii Disc Drive.

    Starting from the main Wii Channels screen:

    1. Select the Wii Icon titled "Wii Options", located in the bottom left hand side of the Wii Channels screen.

    2. Select "Data Management", in the Wii Options screen.

    3. Select "Save Data", in the Data Management screen.

    4. Select "Wii", in the Save Data screen.

    5. Select the save game which you want to copy to the SD card in the Wii Save Data screen.

    [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

    6. Now you will see two options: Copy and Delete. In this case since we are making a backup, we want to select Copy to place a duplicate of the save data on your SD card.

    [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

    7. Your Wii will next verify you meant what you requested. So verify Yes, you do want to copy your save game data to your SD card

    8. Now the transfer will commence. You will want to heed the words of your mighty Wii and do not remove the SD card or power down your Wii Console until the transfer has completed! Not finishing a transfer may result in data corruption.

    9. Congratulations! You have now successfully backed up your Wii Save Data to an SD memory card. Now you can use it on another Wii or learn how to share the gamesave online.

    Upload Wii Saves on Wii Media website

    n order to upload Wii savegames on our website, you first need to transfer them from your Wii console on a SD card. If this isn't the case, click here to learn how.

    First, you need a SD card reader. This can be found on most modern computers or printers. It can also be bought seperately as a multi-card reader.

    Insert your SD card in the SD card reader. Open My Computer and select your SD Card drive.

    Browse to /private/wii/title/ to view all the games with content saved on your SD card. Each game is formed from a 4 letter code. For example, Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is RZDE

    R = Console Type
    Z = First ID
    D = Second ID
    E = Region

    Console Types

    R = Nintendo Wii
    N = Nintendo 64
    J = Super Nintendo (SNES)
    F = NES
    M = Sega Genesis/Megadrive
    P = Turbographx 16

    Regions

    E = North America (NTSC)
    P = Europe/Australia/Others (PAL)
    J = Japan (NTSC)

    You CANNOT use a savegame that is not the same region as your Wii console

    In order to know which game you are looking for, refer to our Game Code List.

    Inside this folder, you will find a file called data.bin. This is the savegame you will upload to Wii Media website.

    [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

    Now that you know where your savegame is, it's time to upload the file on Wii Media. First, be sure to be logged in. This is required to post a savegame. Then click on Submit a Savegame to get started.
